"Half Light" Interview TranscriptExcerpts from the DVD extras from the German version of "Half Light"
Screen captures of the interview
(About Rachel and Angus)
"Angus finds her taking a photograph of the lighthouse and introduces himself and befriends her, becomes her friend and her fantasy in a way. Because she, at this point in her life, has kind of lost sense of life and her connection to life and she's isolated herself. I think Angus is able to open her again. He doesn't allow her to indulge in her melancholy. He finds a way of allowing her to feel the magic of being alive again and connecting with somebody.
(About Demi Moore)
We spent a week rehearsing, which was great. But also just spending time together is really important. 'Cause I feel when you're playing opposite of one another, you have to kind of break through barriers that sometimes take years in friendships to get to. You have to get there very quickly. So you have to kind of learn to open up and be vulnerable, really. Because that really shows, I think, on the screen. In the way that you look at somebody it shows, whether or not you've allowed yourself to go to certain places. And when you're doing love scenes and you know, things like that, you have to lay yourself on the line.
(About riding)
It was a beautiful beach and it was sunset. These are the kind of things that make this job worthwhile. I mean, how many...you don't get the opportunity to kind of ride on a beach with Demi Moore on the back of a horse. It was enjoyable.
(About Craig Rosenberg)
The good thing about Craig is, he's open to change. And that is so important as well, because a slight change in the dialogue can mean everything, maybe taking a line away. The Steve-McQueen-Way of doing things, where he would cut his lines and say, I can do this with a look. Because sometimes if you say something, it might give too much away. It's nice to leave things unresolved and unspoken.
(About the weather)
You've got to embrace the weather. For me...you know, my family is from Scotland and that kind of weather inspires me. It brings a smile to my face and lights my heart. Because there's just something so amazing when the sea's wild and the wind's blowing. I just find, you know...so for this film it's well because the film is set in Scotland. I feel that's part of living on an island."
